"Genre of the Month"

Each month will feature a different “Genre of the Month”.  Students are encouraged to explore books from a variety of genres throughout the school year.  Your child is not required to read a book from the recommended genre, but if you read at least one book for WEB from the featured genre of the month, you will earn a bonus prize at the end of the month. 

Here are the different genres and some information about each of them. Click on the genre for more information and book titles.

September A story using made-up characters that takes place in modern times

Mystery
A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story
November Informational All of the information is based on true facts and is not made up
December
Historical Fiction
A story using made-up characters that takes place in a real time or setting from the past
January Biography and Autobiography

Biography- A story of a real person’s life that is written by another person Autobiography- A story of a real person’s life that is written by that person

Fantasy
A story including elements that are impossible, such as talking animals or magical powers

Poetry
April
Science Fiction
A story that blends futuristic technology with scientific fact and fiction
May
Folktales
